Open Call: Categories
In the Time for (S) Heroes Open Call, ideas are explored through four design briefs. Each brief represents a different way of interpreting sustainable (S) Hero stories through design and creative experimentation.
When submitting a proposal, teams should choose one main category that best reflects the core idea of the concept. At the same time, proposals are encouraged to combine perspectives from different design briefs. The categories are intended to inspire multidisciplinary thinking, and strong proposals may bring together elements from several briefs even if one category is selected as the primary focus.
The four design briefs highlight different approaches to creative interpretation:
Fashion design
Participants are encouraged to innovate a fashion product or collection which outcome can be visually and conceptually cohesive as well as challenges traditional norms in fashion.
Costume design
Participants are encouraged to propose costume design for one or more characters, pushing the traditional costume making practice to embed the design brief themes.
Art installation
Participants are encouraged to design interactive installations that challenge the audience’s perception of space. Proposals can target urban locations or art gallery spaces.
Performing arts
Participants are encouraged to use performance and storytelling to create transformative experiences. The performance can be proposed to one location or can be transferable to various locations.
Because the Time for (S) Heroes process supports experimentation and learning, your idea does not need to be fixed at the beginning. During the design process new elements may emerge, and teams may integrate aspects from other categories as the concept evolves. A proposal that begins in one category can grow to include methods, materials, or storytelling approaches from others. What matters most is a strong initial direction and the willingness to develop the idea further during the collaborative process.
